Insomnia
Some say sleep is the cousin of death…
RATKING
Dank. Dark. Shit. This is not all that there is to be found in the winding tunnels of raw sewage pumping beneath the busy streets of London. There was Joffrey Middleton, a man who was unfortunate enough to be born as a tosher in Victorian London. This meant that he made his living underneath the feet of wealthier men, rummaging through filth for disregarded valuables, dodging toxic clouds of noxious gas, and warring with oversized rats. This would be enough to sap the spirit of any man, but Joffrey had more woes still. His brewing baby boy and doting wife both had empty bellies and expected Joffrey to provide. But how much is a man willing to risk to provide for his family? How far down can the sewers take him? And who shall he meet when he finds the bottom?
Golem
“Through clay, I am perfection Kurtis. Through clay, I am God”.
HOOT
Usually a teen left with an entire home to themselves would be expected to throw some sort of party or at least a kickback. Not me. I'd rather puff some grass in the back yard and microwave anything I can find in the freezer.
Close Call
When a call cuts it too close…
Room 315
… the events that I recall while being just as disturbing, to this day don’t add up. I recount what I remember from those three days and I come to the same conclusion I always do. Either I had a brief lapse in sanity, or what I understand to be reality, isn’t.
From the Swamp
The air was thick with humidity and the dense vegetation surely hid a manner of beasts and ungodly creatures. The sounds of distant yelps and howls echoing around me confirmed this theory. I could feel what felt like the eyes of more than just mosquitoes and gnats watching me. Had I not been kin to the residents I would have turned on my heels instantly.
Isolation
Three weeks up there in that stone tower, shining that light out on the water, keeping the ships from crashing onto the jagged jaws of the rocky shore. Nothing but the mildew and your thoughts. It drives you mad, I know it does, I've seen it.
The Dead Ringer
My father has recently died. I mention this only because his death is now forcing me to return to the place of which I loathe beyond any other.
Rope Ladder
“One more rung,” I grunt. “One more.”
